By (immense) contrast, this is the area the we lived in for the next ten days - bordering a "Hutong", where about a third of Beijings inhabitants still live, despite the progress elsewhere. These houses typically don't even have their own toilets.

And everyone was friendly and smiling - especially at our kids :-)
