Close to St. Peter
According to legend, Peter (the "successor" of Jesus as leader of the Christians, if you like) was buried here after being executed by the Romans, and a simple stone marked his grave.
Some 2.000 years later, this has evolved into a 135 meter (450 feet) tall church filled to the roof with marble, gold, and fabulous artwork.
This particular view is attributed to Mussolini, no less, who tore down quite a bit of the old town in favour of the Boulevard of Peacemaking. Oh well..
